Rob Roy is a former contractor with 11 previous books to his credit. He has been utilizing timber framing techniques for the past 25 years in the construction of homes, as wellas in the numerous outbuildings at Earthwood Building School which he founded in 1981 with his wife, Jaki. He is most recently the author of "Cordwood Building: The State of the Art" (New Society, 2003).

Red River Frame - Red River Frame or 'poteau sur sole' (post on sill) was a popular building construction technique used in the Red River Settlement in the 19th Century. The building style was characterized by a dressed timber structure with a horizontal log infill.

Mock Tudor - Particularly popular in 20th century high-end tract housing developments is a style formally called Tudor (but sometimes called Mock Tudor). Unlike the formal Tudor style this is in fact an emulation of Tudorbethan architecture, a rustic style characterized by timber frame structures with externally exposed beams, infilled to form complete walls.
